A recent work trip saw me travel to Punta Arenas in Chile with the Falkland Islands ice hockey teams. During my two weeks there I managed to grab some down time one day, which happened to be my birthday!
We went on a morning tour to Fuerte Bulnes, a Chilean fort located in the Park of the Strait of Magellan, about 60 kilometres from the city. The fort is actually a replica built in the early 20th century as the original was destroyed by the military force who once lived there.
On our way to the park we stopped by a column marking the geographical centre of Chile, if you count the Antarctic territorial claim. The fort was enjoyable to walk around and was full of information on its history. There was also a quick stop at the visitors centre of the park, which I highly recommend.
Such wonderful scenery with very touching small monuments….its makes me want to visit
